Livistona chinensis, the Chinese fan palm or fountain palm, is a species of subtropical palm tree of east Asia. It is native to southern Japan, Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands, southeastern China and Hainan.
It is an elegant, slow-growing palm with large, fan-shaped leaves that arch gracefully from slender stems. Native to East Asia, this ornamental plant is ideal for both outdoor gardens and as an indoor houseplant. Indoors, it typically reaches a height of 1.8 to 3.6 metres but can grow much taller in natural habitats.
The deep green, glossy leaves add a tropical aesthetic to any space. Livistona chinensis is low-maintenance, thriving in well-drained soil with moderate watering and indirect sunlight, making it a popular choice for UK homes. When larger, it could be tried outdoors in the mildest parts of the U.K. as it can tolerate a few degrees of frost.
