Evergreen - narrowly oblong leaves to 9cm (3½in) long.
Red - brilliant purple-red bracts fading to golden yellow
Yellow - yellow-green flower heads
Height - to 2.5m (8ft)
Spread - 1.8m (6ft)
Tall Shrub - vigorous, erect, freely branching shrub. The ovate flower cones, 4cm (1½in) across are surrounded by light red bracts 10-20cm (4-8in) long
Half hardy - unheated greenhouse / mild winter - Hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK except in severe winters and a risk from sudden (early) frosts. May be hardy elsewhere with wall shelter or good micro-climate. Likely to be damaged or killed in cold winters. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -5°C (23°F)
Place of origin - hybrid cultivar developed in New Zealand. 1960s.
